Crush

Interviewed by James Mottram

With the film's romantic comedy plot, does "Crush" remind you of "Four Weddings and a Funeral"?

It reminded me more of "sex, lies, and videotape". I have a huge role here, as I did with "sex...", and the character is so intense. The whole morality issue is also similar, even though it's got a lot of great humour. British comedy is the best out there; they're famous for their humour. I love Mr Bean and Blackadder.

Are you an Anglophile?

I feel very comfortable in the UK. I could see myself living in the Cotswolds. I love it. I've had some great experiences. This is my fourth film here, and people seem to accept me. It's always nice to be accepted and welcomed.

"Crush" has some great roles for women...

Yeah, great, huge roles. These three women have worked hard to get where they are, so a part of their life got overlooked. That happens a lot with women, so they bonded with each other. That's where they bonded and put their love, energy, and emotions - with each other. My character falls in love with a younger guy, which is completely against her standards, and she approaches it with complete abandon. It was very well-written. Sometimes you get scripts where you think, "I wouldn't want to talk like that, let alone know anyone who does!"
