2000 AD DVD (2000)

Here's a DVD that excites the moment it loads up on screen. From the slick animated menus to the movie and the treatment it gets on disc, "2000 AD" thoroughly entertains.

The slick cinematography and big budget veneer transfers well to DVD. It's hard to find any problem at all with a picture that's always fresh and sharp.

Adding considerably to the excitement is a 5.1 sound mix that really thrills. Expect jet fighters, bombs, bullets, cars, and more to tear between the speakers, and baton down your sub woofer for a monstrous orgy of bass effects.

Bey Logan provides yet another of his excellent audio commentaries, this time enhanced by the fact that he was involved in the making of the movie. Director Gordon Chan also joins him for what amounts to a long interview (they're both currently working on Jackie Chan's "Highbinders"). It's an entertaining affair as they swap anecdotes, divulge a lot of background info, and discuss the various talents involved in the making of the film.

There's also an interview with Gordon Chan, intercut with behind-the-scenes footage from the movie, as he discusses how he tried to make a Hollywood thriller without the equivalent budget. Co-star Andrew Lin is the other interviewee, and he reveals how aside from being a leading man, he also has a career as a special effects wizard on such films as "Mimic", "Alien 3", and the Budweiser ads with the frogs!

Make time too for the often quite amusing 'making of' documentary, which features plenty of behind-the-scenes footage.
