Twinkle Twinkle Lucky Stars SE DVD (1985)

The sequel to "My Lucky Stars" is even sillier than the first film, but who cares when you've got the fighting team of Jackie Chan, Sammo Hung and Yuen Biao mixing it up fast and furious?

TECHNICAL FEATURES

Picture Old video tape releases always looked quite bleary and low in colour. This transfer is much richer in colour depth, and sharper too.

Sound The 5.1 sound mix doesn't do much in terms of effects, but offers a strong centre channel and light stereo mix for the front speakers.

SPECIAL FEATURES

Audio Commentary This film really is a who's who of Hong Kong acting talent, with action stars mingling with some great character actors (and small parts for then up-and-coming talents like Michelle Yeoh). Asian film expert Bey Logan has a field day identifying all the actors and discussing their careers.

Bey also tackles the negative critical comments the film received due to the often-impenetrable humour. Bey defends many of the sight gags, but has to admit that many of the dialogue jokes do get lost in the translation. The good news here is that the film has been re-translated for disc and works a lot better than old video versions.

Richard Ng Interview Richard Ng has been in countless Hong Kong movies and British TV shows in comedy roles since the 70s. As he says himself in this highly entertaining interview, "After 30 years I'm still doing the same bloody thing!"

As well as talking about his long career, Richard also discusses working on "Twinkle Twinkle Lucky Stars". It was clearly a film he enjoyed working on, and he describes Jackie Chan as "one big happy go-lucky child".

Richard Norton Interview Richard Norton will be well known to those of you who have a penchant for straight-to-video action movies. He is a highly skilled martial artist, and is the only westerner Jackie Chan has asked to appear in so many of his movies. Highly charismatic, his life story is unusual as he started out doing bodyguard work for a large variety of stars - David Bowie, the Rolling Stones, and even John Belushi.

Norton has plenty of anecdotes to tell about those times before then moving onto his work in movies. He is under no illusions as to the quality of some of the movies he has been in. However, he is justifiably proud of the work he has done with Jackie Chan.

Additional Extra Features Also on the DVD are two trailer galleries.
