Sinbad once again battles giant sea monsters and other strange delights, only this time he is animated and surrounded by a bevy of Hollywood stars providing their golden tones. With a "gag-filled script" and "impressive visuals", you'd have thought this movie would perform better at the box office than it did. That hasn't stopped DreamWorks pulling out the stops to try to impress us with the DVD release.
For The Adults
Unlike Disney's latest DVD releases for their animated output, DreamWorks has not tried to provide a large amount of extra material for older animation fans. There's a 'making of' featurette, which should prove dull to most who see it, and a rather better audio commentary. In it, the team behind the project talk in depth about the processes used and animators responsible for various scenes, so animation fans don't leave empty-handed.
Unleash The Children...
The rest of the DVD has been given over to kids, which is no bad thing. But most of the interactive games - like a sailing adventure, a symbol matching game and a 3D tour of Chimera - will likely only appeal to young children. For the younger still, there's a host of DVD-Rom features that are resolutely non-computer-based - like printable 'colouring-in' pictures, a board game, masks, a mobile (to put above a cot, not to make calls with), and much more. Older kids will not be interested in any of this, but all should enjoy the movie, which is stunningly presented.
