Countryfile: James Herriot Compilation
Countryfile
Ellie Harrison is in Thirsk in Yorkshire to celebrate a special anniversary. It's one hundred years since the birth of arguably the world's most famous vet. Friends and family knew him as Alf Wight, but for the rest of us, he will always be James Herriot. Ellie meets both his daughter and his son, as well as the vets running his practice today. She learns of the landscapes and people that inspired James Herriot's books and finds out what life was really like for a rural vet. She meets actor Christopher Timothy, who played James Herriot in the television series All Creatures Great and Small, a programme loved by millions during the 70s and 80s, including a young Ellie Harrison. Plus a look back through the Countryfile archive, rediscovering the many people who dedicate their time and efforts to helping animals. Like the time John Craven met the team giving hedgehogs a helping hand through Christmas and the winter months, the dramatic moment Joe Crowley assisted a stag caught up in fencing, and when Ellie met the woman who paints horses to help others understand them!
