Campanula persicifolia is an old-fashioned cottage garden flower of great charm. Its mat of foliage creeps gradually to form good ground cover and the leaves are retained in all but the severest winters. From late spring to early summer the tall stems of wide-open bell flowers appear regularly. Cutting off old stems as blooms fade helps flowering to continue slightly longer. The charming flower spikes are good for cutting if you can bear to do without them in the garden. Planted en masse, this is an attractive variety to associate with old-fashioned roses.
