An evergreen from California with dark green, leathery leaves, white-woolly beneath, and bearing, in the depth of winter, long, greyish-green catkins that can festoon the whole shrub. Useful in shade against walls, but suitable for the open garden in mild locations. The beautiful catkins are borne in late winter through early spring, and are longer on male than female plants. Propagate by semi-ripe cuttings in summer.
