Tomatoes are a favourite summer crop for greenhouses and, if started early enough in heat, can produce six to eight or more trusses of fruit during the summer and autumn. Tall or indeterminate varieties make the best use of space, and are trained as single-stemmed cordons on wires or canes up the inside of the greenhouse. 'Gardener's Delight' is a popular small-fruited variety, very reliable and prolific with long trusses of bite-sized fruits. It may also be grown outdoors in warm sheltered positions. Sow eight weeks before the last frosts, pot on and then plant out 45cm (18in) apart. The Royal Horticultural Society has given it its Award of Garden Merit (AGM).
