Some fully double nasturtiums do not set seed and so cannot be raised in the usual way. 'Hermine Grashoff' is typical, an old variety with lovely rich scarlet flowers that are quite different from the conventional nasturtium, very double and sterile. The only way to propagate this trailing plant is to take cuttings, which is made much easier if the stems are pinched out regularly to encourage bushy, free-branching growth. Plants from summer cuttings will survive the winter, often flowering under glass, and will donate cuttings for summer-flowering plants. The Royal Horticultural Society has given it its Award of Garden Merit (AGM).
