Context

You want to come up with lots of ideas very quickly.

Overview

Set a challenge and then come up with eight solutions each in eight minutes.

How-to

  1. Each take a piece of paper (A3 size is ideal, but it depends on what people have to hand).
  2. Fold it to make eight rectangles and then unfold.
  3. Everyone should understand the problem or hypothesis. There should be a "how might we…" question to define it.
  4. Have a timer ready.
  5. For the next 8 minutes spend one minute per rectangle creating or building on an idea. The ideas can be sketched or written. Remind people:
    • It's not about their drawing skills
    • Each drawing doesn't need to be unique - it can be a build or variation of a previous drawing.
    • It's all about getting ideas out of your head!
  6. Call out each minute as it passes.
  7. At the end of the eight minutes people should talk through their ideas.
