There
is another side to Ross, as there is to most towns in the countryside
nowadays - a drug scene that is affecting many people's lives, and
especially young people.

Awareness
locally has been heightened by the case of Rachel Whitear, from
Ledbury, and the steps being taken to educate children at school
about drugs with the locally produced video, by Chris Smart of Silva
Productions.
A heroin
user says; "I
estimate that there are about 50 regular heroin addicts in and around
the Ross area. Ross is a focal point for many users.
"I
feel that the main trouble with Ross is that there is nothing to
do. It's always been the same and probably always will be. It's
got lots of old people here and many tourists seem to love visiting
the area, but they do not see the reality of it all."
Marc
Russell a recently graduated photographer who has access to the
youth drug scene in Ross-on-Wye, and five young people involved
through the Ross Drugs Forum, document the issues and present them
in an exhibition for the exposure photograph festival.
