" I
have returned to my roots in the Midlands after living in the North
for 25 years.
"I
have always been fascinated by the movement of figures in dance
and theatre and try to bring this into my work, making models and
drawings over a lifetime.
"On
starting an art and design degree, I realised sculpture was my medium
and specialised in this from 1993, subsequently studying under Josefina
de Vasconcellas whilst developing my own style.
"This
lady is my mentor and one remains a ‘pupil’ for life.

Sculpture
by Rose Hirons |
"Most
of my present work is in plaster, wire and clay – some pieces being
cast in resin bronze.
"I
am constantly developing figurative sculpture with workshops, sharing
mutual experiences and ideas. Myths,
legends and the Goddess will be my subjects for the future."
Rose
will be starting her workshops at Bevere Vivis Gallery and Picture
Framers in June 2003.
The
aim of the course is to learn the basics of sculpting by firstly
building an armature, whilst learning the importance of making the
armature strong, then covering it in either plaster or clay.
