The
event titled ‘Mediterranean Journeys’ is also a first for the recently
opened gallery with it being the inaugural showcase exhibition from
a season of planned events.
Carol
Cox who is based in Blackwell, Worcestershire, was born in Birmingham
1961. She decided to give up a career after 20 years to pursue a
love of painting. She is currently completing a B.A. (hons.) in
Fine art.
Karen
Tait owner of the Bohemia gallery expressed her delight at the forthcoming
exhibition, "Carol’s work is quite wonderful and we are thrilled
to be hosting her debut gallery exhibition, Carol without question
is a name to watch and I have no doubt that her work will become
very collectable".
Carol
has produced the following statement for the exhibition:- "My work
is about the emotion that is stirred by the colours, textures and
passion of the Mediterranean.
"The
crumbling walls and alley ways of a sun bleached town or the old
quarter of a bustling city deserted in the heat of the day, secrets
trapped within the layers of stones and peeling paintwork now exposed
after hundreds of years.
"
I convey this into my work within the layers and textures trapping
my feelings and emotions, then scraping away to reveal to the viewer
a beautiful rawness–that will take them on an emotional journey.
"To
achieve this I rarely use a paintbrush – I layer and scrape with
my hands, knives or wood.
"By
using my hands I feel that a part of me, physically and emotionally
is within each piece of work."
Carol
will be in attendance at the Worcester Road gallery on Saturday
23 August between 11.00am and 3.00pm for a special ‘meet the artist’
event.
