APRIL Scholars
and Stitches
Thursday 1st April - Sunday 23rd May Samplers
were often completed by schoolgirls as young as 6 years old, when
these intricate pieces of work formed part of their moral and academic
education. A selection of samplers will be on show, embroidered
by girls from local schools during the 18th and 19th Centuries.
This fascinating exhibition also aims to give an insight into school
life during these times.
Stitching
Samplers with local textile artist, Cynthia Pearson Children's

along to design, stitch and create your very own 21st Century version
of the delightful samplers on show in the exhibition, all made by
local 19th Century children.

Psychology of Likeness

is likeness? Why do we instinctively judge people by how they look?
In this one day workshop, artist in residence Hilary Baker will
help you to produce an image of a likeness, a self portrait or even
a 3D representation of a human head. Materials included.
Ply-Split
Braiding with Julie Hedges
Wednesday 19th May, 10:30am - 4pm
Cost: 拢10 inclusive of materials. Booking required. Learn
some of the basic methods of ply-split braiding using 4 ply cords
and then make items of textile jewellery. Other cord making techniques
will be tried using a hand held cord maker and there will be a special
demonstration of the museum's ropewalk.

& Fossil Roadshow with Herefordshire and Worcestershire Earth
Heritage Trust: Monday 31st May 10:30am - 4pm In
2003, the Abberley and Malvern Hills European Geopark became the
2nd Geopark to be accredited in Great Britain. To find out more
fascinating facts and to experience fossil making and rubbing as
well as many more hands-on activities, come and talk to the experts.

does a museum's collection consist of?
Like many other museums, Bewdley has a large collection of artefacts
but only a fraction of these are ever on view to the public. This
exhibition will display some of the more unusual items from the

celebrate this important anniversary, this special showcase will
explore what domestic life was really like at this traumatic time.

Day 60th Anniversary: Sunday 6th June To
celebrate this special World War II anniversary and supported by
a wealth of artefacts, costumed Living History interpreters Fairfax
Historical Associates will be leading a day of talks, demonstrations
and activities to give an insight into life on the homefront during
this time.
JULY Brass
Rubbing: Tuesdays - 20th and 27th July, also 3rd, 17th and 24th
August
Available 2pm - 4pm. No booking required, pay on the day. Costs

by an adult. A
chance to use replica Medieval brasses to make an individual, decorative
rubbing.
AUGUST Crafts
in Practice: Monday 2nd August - Sunday 5th September The
traditional local crafts on display in the museum's galleries have
always been complemented by resident contemporary craftspeople.
This exhibition brings together examples of their own personal work.
Portraiture
Workshop with resident artist Hilary Baker: Monday 2nd August ,

explore the human form and individual likeness using a variety of

Woodlands
Week 9th - 15th August The Museum Service has joined forces with the Forestry Commission's
Wyre Forest Discovery Centre to celebrate the Wyre Forest's diversity.

Dyeing
With Nature, 1:30pm - 4pm. 9 years and over. Booking required. Cost
拢5. Ancient
natural dyes were obtained from woodland plants, flowers, lichens,
tree bark and fungi. This hands-on workshop will show how yarns
and fleeces can be dyed with some of the subtle colours that can
be created from these natural sources. Materials included.
Woodland
Faces: Tuesday 10th August, 2pm - 4pm. 7 years plus. Booking required.
Cost 拢8 inclusive of materials. Using
all kinds of woodland materials and the paintings of 20th Century
artist Arcimboldo as inspiration, come and make a portrait of the
'spirit of the woods' with Hilary. Materials included.
Natural
Print: Wednesday 11th August, 11pm - 4pm. 12 years and over. Booking
required
Cost 拢8.00 inclusive of materials. Learn about printing techniques
by using nature as inspiration. Create your own textile panel to
take home. Old clothes or an apron necessary.
Wild
Work with Woodlands: Thursday 12th August, 10:00am - 1:00pm. 12
years plus. Booking required. Cost 拢8 inclusive of materials.
Using
Jackson Pollock's action painting techniques and guidance from Hilary,
come and go wild with the woods as inspiration. Old clothes needed
as things could get messy!
SEPTEMBER
People and Places: Monday 13th September - Sunday 31st October This
fine art exhibition takes a look at various local characters and
their connection with the Wyre Forest area.
Heritage
Open Day: Sunday 12th September, Bewdley Museum, 10am - 4:30pm,
Bewdley Guild Hall and Mayor's Parlour, 2pm - 4:30pm On this special day, Bewdley Guild Hall and the Mayor's Parlour
will be joining hundreds of other historic buildings across the
country to show both visitors and local people the unique civic
history of the area. Members of Bewdley Town Council and Bewdley
Civic Society will be on hand to answer all your questions. Plus
an opportunity to explore the Museum's own historic buildings!
OCTOBER
Bewdley Festival Museum Open Day
Saturday 9th October, 11am - 3pm As
part of the Festival celebrations, the museum will be hosting a
range of stalls as well as a local history information point. Come
along and join us at the second of our Autumn special events.
