Flicks
In The Sticks first started 4 years ago as a pilot working with
20 rural venues in Herefordshire and Shropshire.
It
has now grown to 70 venues, 300 screenings, with an audience of
nearly 20,000. And a waiting list of venues wanting to join!
Promoters,
who are essentially local volunteers, are able to choose from a
short list of available movies. Some promoters ask the audiences
what film they would like to see next, others have a list in the
local post office and ask local people to vote on which film they
would like to see.
Once
a date is chosen it is left to the local promoter to sell the tickets.
Flicks In The Sticks just turn up on the night with the film and
the equipment and show the movie.
In
addition to the normal blockbuster movies they have been able to
undertake Film Education work and other interesting screenings such
as:
- A showing of a film taken by local people on a recent polar
expedition.
- A project that toured schools by using actors and original footage,
recreated Cinema during the 1940鈥檚 using children from a Cinema
Children's Club.
- Themed
food by the local pub to tie in with a Flicks screening.
- Chocolate tasting sessions when screening Chocolat.
