The
dance company State Of Emergency come to The Courtyard Centre For
The Arts in Hereford on Tuesday 20th ofMay with their new show The
Mission 2003.
It's an ambitious project, aiming for a fusion of movement that captures
all the freshness and daring of black dance.
The dancers will hope to bring to life everything from the subtle
moods of an island to the complexities of human relationships.
The production showcases new highly individual and insightful interpretations
of dance from five leading young black choreographers.
Each piece is a fusion of styles - from the sophisticated contemporary
grooves of classical dance and jazz to the urban beats of hip-hop
and street dance - with spoken word, satire and humour thrown in for
good measure.
The music is specially arranged and created for the show. The lyrical
beats and harmonic grooves are derived from diverse sources – from
Japanese guitar music and Zimbabwean Kandindo music to modern hip-hop
and scratching.
Local youngsters who attended State Of Emergency’s Roadshow during
the February half term holiday will also be performing on the night.
