About the author
Dr. Nigel Pollard is Lecturer in Classics and Ancient History at the University of Wales, Swansea, and author of Soldiers, Cities and Civilians in Roman Syria (University of Michigan Press 2000). He has taught Roman history and archaeology in universities in the UK and USA and done archaeological field research in Britain, Italy, Tunisia, Egypt and Syria.
