I remember being in the air raid shelter with whooping cough, which is where my family found me.
The 23rd June, 1943 or 4. The bomb fell in Flanders Road, number 5. I lived in number 7. Opposite us there was a pub called the White Horse.
My aunt was working for the post office as a driver and she worked late nights. She came home as usual at about 1pm. Rather than disturb people in the shelter she would sleep inside the house.
The night of the bomb she was taken to Eastham memorial and later died. From the picture we are looking at, you can see that the house was flattened.
After that we had no where to live and so we went to live in Northamptonshire.
When we moved I noticed how quiet it was during the day and night. It was a nice village and in the mornings and evenings we'd see the bombers flying past as we were near to silverstone, on the flight path.
Looking back I was glad that we had moved. Some of my other relatives also lived in Flanders road and they stayed.
