An ‘enlightening’ memory was when both my parents took me for a late walk on the night after the war had ended to show me the lights. The street lamps were on and shining in all of their glory, no house had black curtains at the window and it was wonderful to see all of the different patterns of curtain hanging and being lit up by the indoor light and the few cars that were about, all had their headlamps full on, it was like being in wonderland to see so many lights after I had only experienced nights of darkness — the war was over and life would be so much different but sadly, as the decades rolled on people became different too and less happy, society became greedy and selfish more crime and aggression towards their fellow being. For all the modern technology, I would gladly turn the clock back to the 1950’s.
