Whilst Dad was away in the army Mum and I visited one of her sisters, and my cousin had a Toy Town Post Office set which he'd received at Christmas. My cousin and I were about four years old and during our little game, Mum wrote a short message,as if from me, on one of the 'Telegram' forms and my cousin put it in a 2" square Toy town envelope with a little red toy stamp on it. Mum wrote the full military address with an indelible pencil (does anyone remember them ?) and unbeknown to us my cousin posted the letter the following day. This tiny letter reached my Dad when he was out somewhere on the desert in North Africa. I reckon that was a pretty good postal service, considering the conditions at the time. I still have this tiny letter as Dad brought it back home with him, unfortunately now without it's stamp, but the franking mark can still be seen on the envelope.
