In 1941 nine year old John Salisbury of Wooton, Salisbury saw a German fighter shoot down an unarmed training aircraft. As the incident happened he grabbed his younger brother and rushed to the outside washhouse for safety.

Peering out he saw the German aircraft fly very low up the valley to escape back to France. A frightening experience which he later discovered recorded in a book of wartime incidents 鈥淚 saw that happen鈥
