The whole area in London was bombed out, houses flatened, but my house had just tilted to the right. I just took my wife's hand and we went to my mum's house in Brandon. My wife Violet wanted to take a few things with us, but I was so afraid and glad we were alive that I thought it best to go there and then. We did go back a couple of months later, but everything was gone. But we were alive thank God. 92 years old in the year 2005.
My dad died when I was two years old. He was in the army. I remember going towards his gun which he always stood up near the front door, must have been a rifle, and my mum scolded me. You must never touch dad's gun, as it was very dangerous.
