I used to worry at night that a German plane would come and bomb our house but we knew that old dog Bob, our dog, would save us. Our dog could tell the difference between German and English planes. So when a German plane flew over our house he would bark and bark until it flew past but when an English plane flew past our house he would just sit there. One night he howled so loud that I went lower and lower under my bed covers then I heard a whistling noise, followed by a huge explosion. I got out of my bed and looked out my window. A bomb had dropped at the end of our garden.
I also remember standing with my dad at the top of the woods in Fowlmere looking at the red glow in the distance as London was bombed during the blitz.
