General Notice of interest to ALL veterans who served in Normandy between 5th June and 24th August 1944.

The French authorities intend to issue a Badge to all veterans visiting Normandy next year.

To obtain details of how to apply you will need to visit their web site: www.normandiememoire.com and go to the Veterans Section.

This will require you to send an email with Nationality, Surname, First Name, Address, Post Code, City, Country, Date of Birth and Service Number.

Sadly too few veterans have access to the web but some of their relatives and/or friends may be able to help them.

Best Wishes
Denis Edwards
ex-Oxf.Bucks of 6th Airborne Division.

Thank you for that information. As you say few veterans will probably have access to the web - so, I for one will spread he word amongst the Veterans I know or have contacts with.

With best wishes for a memorable 60th

On the subject of the D-Day anniversary 2004, readers may be interested to know that a new website has been launched about the commemoration of the 60th anniversary of D-Day, 6 June 2004. The city of Portsmouth, England, was at the centre of the preparations for D-Day. In 2004, Portsmouth will be at the centre of Britain鈥檚 D-Day 60 commemorations.

The ferry to Normandy leaves from Portsmouth, making the city (and Portsmouth鈥檚 D-Day Museum) an ideal starting point for visits to the Normandy beaches.

The website gives more information about commemorations, exhibitions and other events that will take place during May - September 2004 in Portsmouth. It also includes material from the archives of Portsmouth鈥檚 D-Day Museum, such as the memories of veterans and local people who witnessed the D-Day preparations. The website will be further developed over the coming months.

Do you have a copy of my book 'The Devil's Own Luck' From Pegasus Bridge to the Baltic sea as an Airborne Sniper 1944/45 published by Pen & Sword? It contains an Appendix listing the 180 men of Major Howard's famous Coup de Main force listed in the individual gliders.
Best Wishes

A quick note of thanks for the information so far. My father was one of those that landed on the beaches and I am researching how I might commemorate the sixtieth anniversary - having missed the fiftieth.

To any and all that participated in this momentous event and read this, I thank you. No matter what your contribution was, it was of the utmost significance: something we need to remember and keep fresh in our minds.

Paul Savage, (ex pat. Brit.)

Florida.
