My father, barry Lotin was a radio officer with the merchant navy during the war, but was employed by Marconi. Prior to working at Bletchley Park where he met my mother, he was employed on the convoys to Russia. three ships that he served in were torpedoed and it was a miracle that he survived, especially as he was the last one off the stricken ships. Indeed he did tellme thaton the Thirdoccasion he stepped straight off the boat into the lifeboat, the ship sank some five minutes later. He would not often talk about his experience as I did not press him for details. I cannot even start to comprehend the kind of hell there men a women endured for so long. Affter the war he went to work at G.C.H.Q. I've no idea what he did there either!
