A piece of wasteland near to where I lived in North Watford became the site of an anti-aircraft unit (an AA gun and aircraft location equipment), the installation being staffed by soldiers and ATS girls.
If we were out at night together, my friends and I would play follow-my-leader by jumping over the light patches between the shadows caused by the moonlight (no streetlights in the blackout).
On one memorable night we were chasing after each other through the bushes close to the AA gun when all too late we became aware that two particularly fine examples of moonbeam we were leaping over, were in fact a young lady's legs - and a dark horizontal patch of shadow which suddenly became vertical, proved to be her consort!
He lodged, in the strongest possible terms, his displeasure at our interruption - and proceeded to sketch out his immediate plans if he got his hands on us.
Moonbeams, real or imagined, were promptly dropped from our agenda as we devoted our energies to escape - fear lending speed to our flight, whilst he, being seriously handicapped by the current position of his trousers became just an angry and distant voice.
Thereafter we gave the gun emplacement an even wider berth than did the Luftwaffe!
