She was a young mother with a baby girl. Her home was in Wales but she was living in rooms in Plymouth, as her husband was in the Navy. For company, her twelve year old niece was staying with her.

One afternoon she had arranged to meet her husband on Plymouth Hoe.

The young mum, her niece and the little baby were all dressed in their Sunday best ready and waiting to meet the young sailor on the Hoe.

They waited and waited until it was dusk. Finally, they walked back to the dowdy rooms where a message awaited them. They young sailor had been posted to his ship and had already gone to sea.

Because of the extreme bombing of Plymouth, the brother of the young mum sent her the money to catch the train back to Wales.

It was a very long time before the young mum was to see her husband again
