I was 14 and remember the day we were woken by the anti aircraft gun fire
Not far from our house, we were not worried as we did not take shelter and were quite used to the noise by then.
There was a loud banging on the door, my farther opened the door and was told to evacuate at once, farther asked why! And was told there was a parachute mine hanging on the apple tree in the garden, farther took us to his office in hove while the bomb squad dealt with the mine,
what a close shave.
When we returned home in the evening everything was cleared up, Few days later the ATS girls visited us as it was quite common, and told us that they thought it was a crew member until they discovered the mine, and not a successful hit on a aircraft.
