I felt more safe then, than I do now.

If you were at the theatre and the sirens went you would just stay there. I worked in a Munition factory in Oldham - often worked nights. I didn't care for it because I was used to office work.

My mother worked at the Wellington in the Shambles. The men would come from the docks and sell lots of goods.

I used to go to the cinema 3-4 times a week. My father said that I was "picture mad".

I was in the Blitz 1940. We didn't get particulary bombed - we hid under the table because we didn't have a shelter. It was awful. Destruction - all the things you knew had gone.
