We had such a lot of evacuees that they built huts on the old Silver Jubilee school fields. I used to go the "hut" school.
One day we were out playing on the school field and we looked up in the sky. This plane was dropping five things out of the plane, We thought it was sandbags but it was bombs.
We pointed it out to the teacher and said "look, that plane's dropping sandbags". She knew what it was and quickly scrambled us into the shelter.
I don't know if they actually fell on the theatre, but they fell in the Queen's Park area. Later on at home during the night raids we had kettle bombs fall in our street and one lady in the road had a big iron shelter in the front room and all us children had to go and sit in it. My mum had slides so she used to put her her slide show on to keep us amused during the air raids.
