My Dad lived in(and was born in) Fanling village in Hong Kong during the Second World War. Although most people relate the war to parts of Europe, the war did occur in the rest of the world, hence the name, World War 2.
The one memory that he said he remembers most vividly is the one where his mother is carrying him on her back. His mother (my grand-ma) was trying to get across the field and get home safely but unfortunately, the Japanese decided to bomb there and then. All my Dad said he was doing was crying 鈥淢a! Ma! Ma!鈥
He also told me something else that happened. He told me of the fact that Japanese soldiers threw babies in the air and then held their swords up, pointing them to the sky and then when the babies came down, they would stab them that way. Horrifying.
My Dad also said that he still hates the Japanese generation which did what they did. Bombing China and Hong Kong, etc. He doesn鈥檛 hate the current generation but he loathes the generation which were in the war.
Shortly afterwards, Hong Kong became a colony of Britain. Luckily, all of my Dad鈥檚 family, or thereabouts survived. Although others weren鈥檛 so lucky.
