I trained in St Georges Hospital in the East End Of London and beacme a theatre nurse in the QA's (Queen Alexanders Nursing Service) in 1940 for five years. I was posted to the desert for four years where i met and married my husband (from Edinburgh) in Cairo Cathederal. He was a leuitenant who went on to become a captain;an eye specialist. We were married for fifteen years.
In the military hospital people had a variety of illnesses. Many had lost limbs, artificial limbs were provided.
My parents lived in Kent, with my father serving in the reserves. We wrote to each other but the mail took a long time to get through; we could't telephone.
