My regiment was dug in along the Susteran road near Stitard, Holland. On the 15 January 1945. It was teribally cold winter with freezing conditions that year were the troops were digging in. We were dug in with the expecation of an attack at any time, where somewhere close by there was quite a loud explosion, which put every one on alert. My officer Captin Bobby Major and I went down to investigate and found a british 3 tonner lying on its side in the road, with its cargo wicker baskets in the road and a person lying near by in an overcaoat. I pulled the coat back and it was a young lady of about 19 who when I spoke to her said she was alright but I knew she was seriously ill. The driver had lost part of his left foot had gone for assistance to the first aid post. They took her up to the post and examined her and the medical officer said she was going to die. They put her in an abulance with the driver and took her to a field hospital called Kaiserslauten, but she died on the road down. They brought her body back to a village in near by Sitard, where the rest of her troop including Tesse Ochay were all absoloutly busserk. The villagers there, heard of this and came up with a lovely white coffin. The next morning they took her to a very small cemitary near sitard. In 1961 she was reberred at a special plot in the cemitary where she lies to day.
I went to visit her grave in November for the 60th anniversary. The queen of Holland was there and she was the only person of E.n.s.a to be killed in the world war 2.
