I lived in Donnington Road in Ipswich and we got a direct hit. Our
neighbours were killed in the raid but I always slept under the stairs with
my daughters (aged seven and five). The whole house collapsed on top of us.
The first thing I had heard was the bomb and I thought 'That's going to hit
me.' It was the middle of the night and the girls were screaming. I lost my
home and all my possessions, including my wedding photographs, and they gave
me 拢80 and another house on the same estate. My husband was in the Army and
he came home on compassionate leave.
