I have a vivid memory of the bombing of the British Oxygen Factory, my father worked there. They made aircraft parts and oxygen masks. They missed the target one night and all the windows in our house got smashed. It had hit a house three blocks away but the force of the blast took out our windows. We had to shelter under the stairs of the house and when the bomb landed I remember bumping my head. The next morning instead of being concerned about the effects of the bomb we had a competition to see who could pick up the biggest piece of shrapnel.
