John Baptist left home at the age of nineteen to come to Europe to join the British army.

John joined the army in 1940 when he finished college in India. He was an Anglo Indian. He was with the medics I think he was with the fifth Indian division. He drove the ambulances to pick up the wounded to take them back to the hospital. He was brave and often did not wear his helmet. He was in Egypt,Sicily,Germany,Italy and France. He talked about the big gun and talked about Monticasino and the monastery. He was awarded the African star and other medals. He was demobbed in England in 1940 not sure where . He made his home in England until his death in 2003 .

This story was contributed by his wife Joyce.
