I found this song handwritten by my father in along with some of his papers i dont know the origin of the song but its about the retaking of st valery in 1945 i hope i have copied it accurately but some of the words were not easy to read
51st division
1 The British lads are fighting o鈥檈r the channel the 51st division on their way to revenge what the nazis did their comrades in a little town they call st valery .
2 When we got aboard the barges at Southampton t鈥檞as only at the closing of the day the British navy they were there to guide us and the Scottish bagpipies played us on our way
3 the Argyles they have done some bitter fighting and to fight revenge they had to go .So we鈥檒l say a prayer for the gallant lads of Scotland who brought destruction to the german foe
4 now the germans thought that they could beat the scots lads but in our hearts we knew that they were wrong when the mortars and the spitfires ceased firing we knew the road to berlin was not long
5 now this song is for the 51st division and for the fighting 50th as well so we鈥檒l say god bless the gallant lads of Scotland who the germans call the ladies up from hell .
