The reason my brother and I were sent to St Joseph's boarding school at Marden Hill was to be safe from bombs. My parents were working and living in London. One day we looked out of our bedroom window and saw 2 V 1 flying bombs flying over our school in the early evening. We were quite excited to see them with the red exaust gases blowing into the sky. The next day I wrote a letter to my mother who of course was very upset. She later spoke to the headmaster who reasssured her that we were indeed in a safe place. Strangely we never saw another bomb fly over our school again.
