In 1939 I was 12 years old and attended Beford Mdern School. I remember six soldiers belonging to the Highland Infanitry, being billeted in my house for a few days after the Dunkirk Evacuation. (My house was in Rothsay Road and it was a large house.)
We had a ten year old evacuee staying with us at around 1941. His name was Russell Turner and he went to Owen School, which shared with the Modern School premises. I believe he married Bebe and Ben Lyon's daughter Barbara and beame a B.B.C. producer.
I remember the bombing of Bedford; also firematching at the School in the town centre, also at the boat houses at Langholme, where an icendiary bomb fell. (not on my shift!)
