Throughout the war I was working in munitions in Nottingham at Castle Engineering in Haslam Street. I believe the factory is still there doing engineering work.
I had a job putting the bombs together. The bombs were quite big but I only did parts of the job. I made lots of bits of bombs. It made my hands sore though. It were work and it were money and I was glad of it. I felt I had to do my bit.
There were many people working there, mostly women. My four sisters all worked there during the war
I was sad for others in the war, but I had lots of pleasure myself.
The wartime food was a bit mundane, but we learnt how to be thrifty. I think it did some of us good.
