My memories of the war
We lived in Rock ferry at the time. I was 6 when the war started, my mother had just died and there was six of us.
We all had to go into the air raid shelter in the back yard each night when the siren went off.
It was very frightening hearing all the bombs especially the whistling bombs.
My elder brother would never come to the air raid shelter and would stay in bed.
One morning after a night in the shelter we all went in to see how he was after the nights raids.
As approached the house we could see that all the windows were cracked.
As we went upstairs we could see that the bottom legs had fallen off my brothers bed and he was lying half on the floor.
As we neared his bed we all started to laugh because we realised that he was still fast asleep.

My dad worked on the busses as a bus driver,it was early in the morning when he was on duty and he stopped the bus because he could see something hanging from a tree,
he thought it was a parachute with a person hanging from it, as he approached he realised that it was an unexploaded bomb, he said that he had never been as frightened in all his lfe.

My elder brother who had stayed in bed was later called up in the army.
He was killed near the end of the war aged 19, 09 April 1945 (14652700 pvt Hampson 4 th bat The kings Shropshire light inf)

My son joined the Army in 1977 and was posted to Germany, Hameln(24471662 Cpl Macdonald 65 support sqd bfpo 31)
I went to visit him and asked if he could find out were my brother was buried, this he did, we were all surprised to find out that he was buried about 10 miles from where my son lived in Germany in the military graveyard at Hanover
We went to visit my brother and saw all my brothers and sisters names on the grave stone. It was so well kept and was one of the best memories of my life to see my long lost brothers grave.

I would like to know if anyone could tell me what happened to my brother in the last days of the war

TY
Edna (sister)

Ty Peter,
My mother will be pleased to see this pic.
It was along time ago but it still makes me feel sad to think that someone so young lost his life in the last days of the war.
My mother will be overjoyed to see the memorial to her brother
Again ty for you help.
Chris
