I was seconded to B.O.A.C. from the R.A.F. I was a Navigator on a Flying Boat Clipper G-ABZ. I arrived in Bathurst, Gambia on the 2nd May, 1945 and left on the 7th. From there we flew to Balem, Brazil. This was one of three planes which were bought from the Americans to maintain communications across the Atlantic between London and Washington. The crews were B.O.A.C. civilians supplemented by the R.A.F. Normally, these planes carried 40 passengers but flying across the Atlantic, we only carried approximately 11 due to the weight and the need to refuel.
