my grandad use to be in the royal engineers his role was following the advancing line and to make runways for air planes to land and supply the troops as he was working on a bulldozer one day he and his comrades were mistakenly identifyed as a group of tanks by a german tank group who decided to retreat because of the bulldozers. later as the war finished he moved on to demoliish concentration camps where he said thy had to douse the bulldozers in diesel and had to tie up the bottoms of their trousers to stop the maggots from covering the bulldozer and my grandad, i think that everyone of them were heroes.
