My great grandad (Basil Gungell) was a journalist for the Times. He was of very high status (he reported on the Queen's coronation) and he was invited to witness the Neuronburg Trials. For anyone who doesn't know, the Neuronburg Trials were when all of the Nazi leaders were rounded up and hanged. Watching these made him a very privileged person.

"For anyone who doesn't know, the Neuronburg Trials were when all of the Nazi leaders were rounded up and hanged."

This is far from being the case - the Nazi leaders were not 'rounded up and hanged'. The reference is to the main Nuremberg Trial (there were a whole series of later trials). Twenty-one of the main Nazis were put on trial. The trial opened on 20 November 1945 and concluded on 1 October 1946. Of the twenty-one defendants: 11 were condemned to death; 7 were given prison sentences; and 3 were acquitted.

Peter, don't be too harsh towards cashlessrichie. He writes about his great-grand-dad, how old can he be !

Dear reluctantPioneer

That seems to be a non sequitur. I was correcting wrong information given out by 'cashlessrichie', not by his great-grandfather. In any case, the information I gave was meant for others accessing this archive, and was not meant to offend the poster or be a rebuke in any way.

Regards,
Peter
