I was living in Devon in village called Staverton. In the village we were far enough away from harm, I recall once a german plane crashed and the pilot had to eject and he just missed the spire of the church.
I remember seeing Plymouth ablaze almost every night. It was a red glow in the sky. I can remember my parents saying 鈥淥h my Goodness, Plymouth has got it again tonight鈥.
I was 10 or 11 years old during the end of the war. My memories are actually quite pleasant. I remember on VJ day sitting in a field having lemonade, cakes, cream tea and biscuits. Having grown up in a village, which had no shops, we had never seen such luxuries before. I have no idea where these things came from but we really enjoyed it.
