My dad was called up in 1940 but did not serve long as he was involved in a nasty accident. A dispatch rider was involved in an accident and the bike was brought to my dad to repair. My dad was not told the nature of the accident. He checked the bike over and took it for a test drive but the main front forks where cracked and split and my dad came off the bike and he lost the little finger off his right hand. Dad was invalided out of the army due to the accident.
