I was a F/lt Wop/AG in raf coastal command. In August 1942 on return from an operational mission, about midnight our aircraft flew straigt into 2,5oo feet Ben Loyal in Scotland. I was the sole survivor of the crash, but was seriously injured.
The rescue party from Tongue, the nearest village, found me about 7 am, but it was about 3 pm before I eventually reached Golspie hospital, by which time I was near to death. I was in hospital for 17 months.
The doctor and shepherd who led the rescue party were awarded the BEM. I have recently written my memoirs so more detailed information can be suppled on request.
