This is a short note in memory of my uncle (Dominick John Logue) and the men that died with him between 9th and 10th June 1940 on HMS Glorious, I have searched this site for a mention of this event and thus far have been unable to locate any information so here I am rectifying this. I hope that there is someone else out there who may have some info on this subject as I am assembling a family tree which I have included key events around the times of births, deaths, and marriages of my ancestors and this is one which I would really like to include with some photographs of the people who died with my uncle whom I never knew as I was born 19 years after the war ended. Watching all that I have on television reports and reading what I have not only on this website but many other places such as libraries museums and the Scottish War Memorial in Edinburgh I feel that it is essential not just to remember our men, women and children who but never forget those who lived/died in these mostly sad times.

John,
Suggest you visit the below link where you should find much information on FAA in general and the history of HMS Glorious in particular, including an account of her last action and sinking.

Regards,
David Grundy.

Many thanks for this info albeit that I know that the date posted on this site is incorrect (8th-10th June are the official dates) according to the Scottish War Memorial in Edinburgh.
Some of the information on this site is well worth taking note of as I have not got pictures or any names of other crew and I know that I cannot use these photos for any financial gain (due to copyright ownership)
I would be inerested to find out where I stand if I were to use these for a personal project which will only be seen/used by my family members.
perhaps if the administrator at the 大象传媒 could give me a posting to this effect I would be most grateful.

sincerely John

John,
A grand uncle of mine, WO John E. East, (aka Jock to his friends) flew as a TAG off HMS Glorious. His log entries show numerous flights with 'B' Flight 823 Sqdn. in numerous planes, mostly Fairey III between 29th Feb 1932 and 2nd May 1934.
Perhaps this is another name you can add to your research.

Regarding your copyright issue, may I suggest you submit your query to the appropriate Research Desk on this site.

Here's wishing you all the best with your research.
Regards,
David Grundy.

I lost my uncle on the Glorious. His name was Francis Cusse. I think he was a Chief Petty Officer. He did survive the original sinking as he was named on the survivors list as having been seen. Hoever from what I understand that was no comfort as those who got to the boats waited 3 days to be picked up by a Faroe Island Fishing vessel. Obviously after that length of time at sea off Norway most had died from cold etc. My grandmother had been informed that she had sunk in the Norwegians ffords and could never understand how, being a strong swimmer, he had never reached the shore. Of course history has now proved that incorrect and the cover up still continues. There have been several books printed although most are out of print but I think you can still get "Carrier Glorious The life and Death of an Aircraft Carrier"ISBN 0 304 35244 6. There is also an association for families of the crew and if you wish I can get
more information on that if you don't already have it

Hi there youngwarbaby yes it would be much appreciated if you could give me any details of this group as I am seriously considering writing a short film about this event if I can get enough info the very little detail I do have has all come from internet sources although I am in the hope of meeting up with an uncle who now lives in the USA and he may also have served with his brother at some point albeit that I know some of his time was in service in Malta as that was when he met his late wife his name is Patrick Logue and though he is now 82 years old I am sure his faculties are still there.

Did you Know that the 大象传媒 did a documentary on the sinking. The documents on her sinking were not to be reviewed until 2050 (all survivors dead and all interested parties i.e you and me dead) I did tape the doc but I think my daughter has it and she lives abroad at the moment. There was a big cover up I don't know if you were aware of that. There is a service every year in Plymouth. I don't know if there are any survivors left and I keep meaning to go but......Will get info for you on sosiety as I have to get it for my cousin (It was his dad)

My childhood friend Michael Franklin was a sub liutenant fleet air arm (aircraft navigator) on the Glorious when she went down. He had sent me a calendar for 1940 with photo of the ship which I still have. He was the son of Commander Franklin and lived in Watling St Radlett. His brother died unloading bombs (RAF), his sister died of TB and one sister survived and married, her name was Wendy, she would be in her late 90's if still alive.
