My mum was 16 in 1943, she used to tell me how she used to cross the Manchester Ship canal on her pushbike to work every morning.
She used to build pontoon bridges for the forces and was very proud of that.
Later she joined the naafi in shrewsbury, where she met and married my dad, Raymond Phillips.
I will always remember my dad telling me how he remembered cycling through derbyshire and hearing the sirens that the war was over!
