I can remember being evacuated in 1944. I remember being on the train with my brother, Len aged 10. Arriving at Wroxham, Norfolk to the village Hall, where all the hosts and evacuees were taken. We were left till last, we had been left off the list. As Mrs. Taylor had organised this and as she was ill, we were placed with her so my mother could help her. We were in a large detached house with a rich lady. I had a playroom. my brother went shooting with the man of the house. This has given my brother and I ideas above our station! We kept in touch with Mr. and Mrs. Taylor for a number of years.
My cousins were also evacuated to Norfolk, they didn't do so well, they were in a council house - no mains connected yet, but the people were very nice.
I remember a session in a village Hall in Norfolk, where mother's were being shown how to put gas masks on babies.
